"But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment." ~Matthew 12:36
This verse is warning us that someday when we stand before the LORD, we will be reminded of all the words we wasted...every word. That's kind of a scary thing to think about - but I think the LORD wants us to think of this with a bit of fear, because hopefully that fear would keep us from saying things we shouldn't.
What does the word "idle" mean? It means "without purpose or effect; pointless." So, the LORD also wants us to realize that we are not supposed to talk just for the sake of talking. This is something that is super easy to do in our generation. How?
Through texting.
Are we texting people mostly idle words? Or are we ministering "grace unto the hearers"?

Bible Reading: Proverbs 14, Ruth 3

How often do I waste precious opportunities to plant seeds for Christ! While it is true that not every conversation has to be directly about the Lord, it is also true that every conversation we hold can be God-honoring and thought-provoking.
