I love Feminine Fridays! It is just so fun to be a girl - we get to wear pretty clothes, style our hair in attractive ways, accessorize with matching jewelry, accentuate our faces with the makeup of our choice...adorning ourselves is something we all do in our own creative way!
Did you know that the word "adorning" is used in the Bible only in reference to us ladies? It is mentioned in a verse that is often misunderstood, so I wanted to make sure we all realize what the LORD is saying to us. Let's look at the passage first:
"Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price." ~ 1 Peter 3:3, 4
Some people try to use these verses to say that Christian women are not supposed to braid their hair, wear jewelry, or wear fancy clothing (even though apparel just means clothes in general....so that does not even make sense!). But this is not what God is saying.
What God is saying is that every lady has beautiful things about them; some of us have amazing hair; some of us do our eye makeup "just perfect"; some of us have that coveted hourglass figure. These things are not bad, and are simply things that define who we are. What God is saying is that, the most attractive thing about you should not be your body's curves, your gorgeous hair, your captivating eyes, or your winning smile. The most attractive thing about you should be the light of Christ shining from your heart.
Is your testimony for Christ saying a louder message than your hips are? Is the way you treat people more beautiful than your tan line? The most gorgeous girl in the world is only as gorgeous as her heart is.
